Inside the White Rock Battery Project
A site visit to a 50 MW project highlights the role of storage, financing and Mi’kmaw ownership in the energy transition.

This morning I had the opportunity to tour the 50 MW White Rock Battery Project with the Nova Scotia Power Community Advisory Committee. The project is currently wrapping up construction and is expected to come online in the next couple of weeks. The 50 MW battery projects in Bridgewater and Waverley are already online.
Together, these three battery projects were constructed rapidly and will support grid reliability while enabling more renewable energy integration in Nova Scotia. Ratepayers also received strong value from the project structure, with one-third of project costs supported through federal incentives and financing provided by Canada Infrastructure Bank.
An important part of the project is its ownership model: all 13 Mi’kmaw First Nations in Nova Scotia have equity ownership through the Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency (WMA).
