Home energy upgrade data highlights Nova Scotia’s progress on insulation and building envelopes, and the region’s strength in energy efficiency.

One thing has become abundantly clear as I have reviewed Canadian home energy upgrade data over the past few days: Nova Scotia and the Maritimes are significantly outpacing the rest of Canada in virtually every category related to home energy improvements, including # energy audits, heat pump installations, insulation area, and solar systems.
This latest chart compares home envelope area upgraded, including ceilings, walls, headers, and foundations, in Nova Scotia versus the rest of Canada. In 2025, Nova Scotia upgraded 2.4 times more envelope area per capita than the rest of Canada.
The Maritimes should embrace and nurture this distinction as a centre of excellence in energy efficiency and distributed energy.
As the region focuses on becoming a clean energy superpower, that vision should include energy efficiency and distributed renewable energy.
