The Maritimes’ energy management advantage
The people working inside businesses and institutions are a regional strength worth building on.

Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have the most Certified Energy Managers per capita in Canada. These are the people helping businesses, institutions, and communities develop energy projects and make smarter long-term infrastructure decisions, enabling the energy transition from within organizations. Earlier this year, I shared a series of posts showing how Nova Scotia and the Maritimes lead in nearly every category of energy retrofits.
This is just another example. With over 1,000 companies across the Maritimes working on demand-side and distributed energy solutions, the region has a concentration of talent and expertise that is truly unique, and some genuinely innovative work is being developed here. This is a real area of strength for the Maritimes.
As we rightly move forward with regional energy integration and large-scale renewable development, we should give serious consideration to the value demand-side solutions can provide, and look for ways to turn that strength into a lasting regional advantage.
