Halifax’s electric buses: the operating-cost opportunity

Halifax Regional Municipality’s decision to electrify its bus fleet is looking pretty good right now with diesel prices in Halifax sitting around $2.12 per litre.
A feasibility study by WSP in Canada showed that, prior to the purchase of the initial 60 x electric buses, HRM’s fleet of 275 x 40-foot diesel buses consumed roughly 9 million litres of diesel annually, about 32,700 litres per bus, or roughly $69,000 per bus per year at today’s prices.
By comparison, estimated electricity costs for an electric bus are around $10,000 per year.
