Nova Scotia’s Green Choice Program was introduced to connect large electricity customers with new renewable electricity supply. It provides a procurement approach for organizations seeking renewable energy through the electricity system.
Coordinate demand and new supply
The program illustrates how participating customers can support new renewable generation collectively. A supply arrangement through the grid is different from installing generation directly at a customer’s building.
This article retains the perspective of the original 2024 post. Subsequent procurement decisions and project announcements should be assessed using their own dates; anticipated generation is not the same as electricity already delivered.
For participating organizations, renewable procurement belongs alongside efficiency and electrification planning. Reducing avoidable consumption and understanding future loads helps define the electricity supply they need.
