PB Energy · Calculator in development
What could tax incentives
mean for your project?
Estimate energy project tax credits and deductions for taxable Canadian corporations, including incorporated businesses and farms.
Planning estimate · 2026–2029 investments · Reviewed October 12, 2026Three quick details
Advanced — adjust the assumptions
Not available solely because a project is in Atlantic Canada. The Gaspé region has special geographic eligibility that this version does not model.
Nova Scotia industrial credit
An approved project exceeding $15M is required. Calculated separately until assistance and stacking are reviewed.
You could save about
Rebates + tax credits + tax value of deductions
Assumes a taxable Canadian corporation, eligible new equipment, full-rate requirements and usable deductions at 29%. Confirm with your tax adviser.
Where the savings come from
Project cost
30% federal clean tech credit iClean Technology Investment Tax Credit (ITC). Refundable, subject to eligible equipment, ownership and labour rules.
On $100,000 of eligible equipment
Clean electricity credit: $15,000 alternative. Not added to the larger clean tech credit.
A qualifying farm or industrial business may also receive a 10% Atlantic credit. Add it under Advanced when the activity qualifies.
Equipment deduction tax savings iCapital cost allowance (CCA): eligible costs are deducted from taxable income. The Mega Deduction is an announced expansion of immediate expensing, not an additional deduction on top of existing CCA.
$70,000 deduction × 29%
Deductions assume sufficient taxable income and bring tax relief forward. Their full value is not an extra subsidy over normal depreciation. Payment timing and recapture are not modelled.
How the estimate works
Read the assumptions
A clearer starting point for a project conversation.
Credits and deductions are different
A credit reduces tax dollar for dollar and may be refundable. A deduction reduces taxable income. A $100,000 deduction at a 29% marginal rate has a $29,000 tax value when usable. Accelerated CCA primarily brings deductions forward; its entire value is not an incremental subsidy compared with ordinary depreciation.
How this estimate is calculated
Equipment base = (total cost − development expenses) × eligible share − Efficiency NS equipment rebate − other equipment assistance. This screening scenario treats entered equipment rebates as assistance reducing the applicable credit and deduction bases; confirm the treatment of each offer. The three Efficiency NS programs are alternatives for the same equipment. Separate measures can follow different programs, but model them separately in this version. The selected federal clean-economy credit and confirmed Atlantic ITC use that base. For a conservative simplified tax-value scenario, both credits are then subtracted before calculating the equipment deduction. Actual CCA / UCC adjustments can occur in a later tax year. This is not a first-year cash-flow forecast or present-value analysis.
Development and equipment stay separate
CRCE covers qualifying development expenses, not every capital cost. It requires a qualifying project (generally at least 50% of depreciable capital costs in Class 43.1 / 43.2), eligible expense types and other conditions. Costs are not deducted again as equipment. Enter CRCE net of related assistance. Specified-energy-property restrictions can limit CCA.
Scope and timing
This version covers Canadian investments acquired and in use during 2026–2029. Clean Electricity is legislated. The Super-Deduction is an umbrella for tax measures, not another credit. The Productivity Mega Deduction, announced September 15, 2026, is modelled for other eligible business equipment when enabled. It remains proposed and is shown as Announced. It replaces the equipment deduction in that scenario; it is never added to another deduction for the same costs. The scenario excludes buildings, goodwill, franchises, licences and other excluded property, including certain vehicles and pipelines. For mixed retrofits, reduce the eligible share to equipment that qualifies. Other provincial incentives are not comprehensively modelled. Hydrogen, CCUS, manufacturing ITCs, flow-through financing, recapture and mixed-asset optimization require a tailored review.
For preliminary project screening, not a tax filing or eligibility opinion. Tax capacity, timing, ownership and equipment specifications matter. Confirm results with a qualified tax adviser and relevant authorities. Inputs remain in this page and are not submitted.
