Halifax’s next generation of efficient municipal buildings
Two municipal projects illustrate how efficient design, solar and building renewal can support local climate goals.

Great to see Halifax Regional Municipality making strong progress on two highly energy-efficient, net-zero ready, solar-powered municipal buildings, both meeting the ambitious requirements set out in the HalifACT climate plan. The Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Headquarters and Station #8 has transformed a former Ben’s Bread distribution centre in Bedford into a modern, state-of-the-art facility.
Meanwhile, the new Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Community Centre replaces an aging, inefficient building on the same site, delivering a vibrant and sustainable community hub.
Both projects are great examples of net-zero ready design and will operate with minimal energy costs for decades to come, setting a strong example for municipalities across Nova Scotia.
